Xbox Bundle Experience

Role: Sr. UX Designer | Company: Microsoft

The Challenge

Xbox wanted to highlight the value of its bundles—combining consoles with games, accessories, skins, or limited edition features. The challenge was to design an experience that promoted Xbox’s curated bundles while still giving users the flexibility to create their own.

The Process

I explored multiple wireframe iterations to strike a balance between two goals:

  1. Showcase curated bundles – highlight Xbox’s featured combinations.

  2. Offer flexibility – allow users to customize their own bundle through filters and browsing.

To achieve this, I focused on the filtering experience, since it was key to helping users find the right bundle without hitting a “No results” dead end.

  • Option 1: A simple design with a single filter to guide users.

  • Option 2: A more flexible design with multiple filters for greater customization.

  • Option 3: A full product page experience combining curated bundles with filtering, ensuring every path led to a meaningful result.

The Outcome

I presented multiple filter solutions to the client, giving them clear options to balance discovery and customization. The design ensured users could always find a bundle—whether curated by Xbox or built themselves.

Takeaway

Designing this experience reinforced the importance of meeting users where they are: a some want curated guidance while others want control. A successful design gives space for both.
